Studying sugars at the nanoscale

Matthew J. Paszek, Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Cornell University, studies the glycocalyx—sugars that cover our cells. He has found that in cancer cells the glycocalyx can expand dramatically, affecting cell signaling and leading to more aggressive cancers.
