Description
Narrated animation for a NIST explainer about nuclear clocks and thorium-229.

Context

NIST's atomic-clock explainer introduces several clock types, ending with nuclear clocks: a proposed timekeeper based on energy jumps inside the atomic nucleus rather than electron transitions.

The animation focuses on thorium-229, whose unusually low-energy nuclear transition could someday make an exceptionally stable clock.

Approach

I wrote the initial script, worked with the NIST writing team to refine it, storyboarded the sequence, and animated the final video to voiceover. The final public version uses NIST's sound-design and music mix.

Storyboard

The storyboard established the pacing, captions, and scene transitions before animation. View the full storyboard PDF.
